One day I was sitting in my office of King Khalid University along with my colleague Mr. Adil. Both of us were having a discussion about the present situation of Bangladesh. In the middle of the discussion we heard someone tapping at the door.
Mr. Adil was sitting close to the door and characteristically he said “yes?”
Two students appeared from behind the door. One of them said, ‘Excuse me sir.’
I asked, ‘yes, what do you want?’
He replied, ‘sir my friend is looking for one of the faculty members, but unfortunately he couldn’t recall his (teacher) name. Besides, his English is too poor to make you understand verbally the appearance of the teacher.’
At this point the student with poor English explained something in Arabic to the other student. After a while the student-whose English is fairly understandable- interpreted the whole thing to us in English. The nitty-gritty of it is that the student who is looking for the teacher doesn’t know his name but the teacher has some semblance of appearance with the face of Saddam Hossain. Mr. Adil burst out into laughing.
I got stunned at this and felt a kind of weird satisfaction thinking that it didn’t happen with me. Thanks God!!
